# aether plugin

> Browse plugin marketplaces and manage your organization's plugins

A plugin is a versioned bundle of skills, commands, agents, hooks and MCP servers in Claude Code's or Codex's plugin format, pinned to one commit. Every command acts on your personal organization's plugins. With the global [`--org`](https://docs.runaether.dev/cli/overview#global-flags) it acts on that team's. Commands that take a `<plugin>` name it by its name or its id.

Every member lists marketplaces and plugins. Browsing a marketplace, installing, updating, setting defaults and uninstalling take an admin of the organization; a member who tries is refused with the rule named.

**Alias:** `plugins`

## Usage

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin <subcommand> [flags]
```

## Subcommands

| Subcommand | Description |
| - | - |
| `marketplaces` | List the official plugin marketplaces |
| `browse <marketplace>` | List the plugins a marketplace offers |
| `list` | List your organization's plugins |
| `install <plugin>` | Install a plugin in your organization |
| `update <plugin>` | Preview a plugin's update, or apply the revision a preview showed |
| `defaults <plugin>` | Set a plugin's organization-wide defaults |
| `uninstall <plugin>` | Uninstall a plugin |

## Marketplaces

Lists Anthropic's Claude Code marketplace and OpenAI's Codex marketplace, by name. Any other public marketplace is browsed by its repository URL.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin marketplaces
```

## Browse

Lists a marketplace's plugins, named by an official marketplace's name or by its public https git repository, read at its default branch. A plugin Aether cannot run says why. A marketplace's text is printed with its control characters escaped.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin browse claude-plugins-official
aether plugin browse https://github.com/example/plugins
```

## List

Lists the organization's plugins: the commit each is pinned to, whether the organization has it on by default, whose connection its servers use unless a project sets its own (the default credential policy: `creator` or `org`), how many MCP servers it has, and where it comes from. `--json` prints the API's list, servers and skills included.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin list
```

```
NAME      COMMIT          DEFAULT    POLICY    SERVERS    SOURCE
linear    0123456789ab    on         org       1          linear@claude-plugins-official
```

## Install

Installs a plugin, pinned to the commit its source resolves to now. With `--marketplace`, `<plugin>` is the name a marketplace lists, the marketplace named by an official marketplace's name or its https git repository. Otherwise `<plugin>` is a public git repository: `owner/repo`, an https git URL, or a link to a directory of a GitHub repository at a branch or tag. A directory without a plugin manifest installs as a plugin of its skills.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin install linear --marketplace claude-plugins-official
aether plugin install example/agent-plugins --ref v1.2.0 --path plugins/review
```

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--marketplace` | Install the plugin this marketplace lists by name: an official marketplace's name or an https git repository |
| `--ref` | The branch or tag of the git source to follow (default: its default branch) |
| `--path` | The directory of the git source holding the plugin (default: its root) |

The plugin's MCP servers that take a connection are printed with the [`aether mcp connect`](https://docs.runaether.dev/cli/mcp#aether-mcp-connect) command that makes each: yours or, under the `org` policy, the organization's.

```
Installed linear at 0123456789ab.
Connect its server 5f1c…: aether mcp connect 5f1c… --org-connection
```

## Update

Without `--revision`, resolves the plugin's source again and shows what updating would change, writing nothing: the commit it moves to, the MCP servers it would add or remove, and each field of a changed server that differs (a remote server's URL, auth and headers; a local server's command, arguments and environment). A server whose URL or auth changes loses its connections. With `--revision`, it moves the plugin to that revision, which must be the one the preview showed: a source that moved since is refused.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin update linear
aether plugin update linear --revision <to_revision>
```

```
linear: 0123456789ab → fedcba987654
  adds server linear-docs (https://docs.linear.app/mcp, auth none)
  changes server linear: URL https://mcp.linear.app/sse → https://mcp.linear.app/mcp; deleting its connections
  changes server linear-admin: headers X-Scope: "read" → X-Scope: "write"
Apply it: aether plugin update linear --revision 2222…
```

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--revision` | Apply this revision, the one the preview showed |

## Defaults

Sets one organization-wide default at a time, since each rewrites every project's enablement.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin defaults linear --credential-policy org
aether plugin defaults linear --enabled-by-default=false
```

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--credential-policy` | Whose connection every project enabling the plugin uses for its servers: each task creator's own (`creator`) or the organization's (`org`, which needs the organization's connection to each). It replaces the policy each project set for itself. |
| `--enabled-by-default` | `true` enables the plugin on every project, those created later included; `false` turns it off for the organization, disabling it on every project |

## Uninstall

Deletes the plugin, its MCP servers and their connections, and every project's enablement of it.

```bash theme={"dark"}
aether plugin uninstall linear [--force]
```

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--force` | Skip confirmation |
